SOLSTICE BOARD RULES
Character Applications
1. Please use the Original Character Template when applying for original characters and the Canon Character Template when applying for canons. You will find these in the character Application Board.
2. If applying for a canon character, please refer to the Available Character List before submitting your application.
3. If applying for an original character, please view the Available Character list to ensure there is room in the house and year you want, also to make sure that, by some coincidence, your nameis already taken.
4. Please be sure to view the Celebrity Model Master-list before using a celebrity model.
5. When applying, please be sure to use complete sentences and proper grammar. Your application is the initial preview of your RPing style, and the more impressed the staff, the better.
6. Illegitimate children of canons must be reasonable, and you must provide a detailed back story explaining how the unlikely lovers’ rendezvous came about. Hermione and Snape’s bastard (or anything similar) is unacceptable. Similarly, if your character is the child of any pairings between canons which are not apparent in the books, a small history of their romance will be necessary.
7. Please give your character some depth. Make him or her realistic. Mary-Sues and their counterparts will not be accepted.
8. If you are having difficulties developing a character, please see the Character Building Workshop 101. This thread will give you several options to further developing your character.
9. HYBRID CHARACTERS/CHARACTERS WITH SPECIAL ABILITIES WILL BE CLOSELY MONITERED. Please see the Special Abilities Thread before you define a characters by his or her ability and or magical race. Only a certain quota of these ‘gifted’ characters will be accepted.
Basic RPing
1. Swearing in the RP boards only is generally okay, but please exercise some discretion. Some people are potty-mouths, that’s life. But please be reasonable and don’t take advantage.
2. All posts should be in third-person, past tense. This is standard RPG format.
NO
I walk into the street and look around for the bookstore. It’s on my right and when I turn to go in, somebody runs into me and it really hurts!YES
Cassie strode into the alleyway and glanced up and down the street for the book store. She spotted it and turned to enter when a sudden collision knocked her to the ground.
3. Please use spell-check! On the same note, proper grammar is a MUST! Accidents happen, but please be conscientious and make things easier for your readers by editing your post before submitting it. Tip: If you're using the Firefox Web Browser... you have a built in spell-check!
4. You control your character and ONLY your character. You may not, when posting, say that another character has done something or is thinking something (unless this is your character’s assumption) that their player has not stated in his or her own post. Every player has the right to behave as he or she likes without the forced influence of other players. Nobody wants to RP with you when they can’t even control their own character.
In relation to this rule, you may not have any serious physically interaction with another character without his or her permission. To bypass this restriction, you may do one of two things.
a. PM the person you’re playing with and request permission. You may also use the chat board, it may turn out to be quicker.
b. Make your character move to make the action, but do not complete it until the other player has accepted it.
EXAMPLE:
[/i]NO
Mark kissed Susie.YES
Mark: Mark looked at Susie. She was so beautiful… the way the evening light danced across her chocolate locks, and the eerie glow of her sun-kissed skin. She was only a few feet away from him, all he needed to do was to close the distance between them, and he could finally feel the gentle pressure of her lips on his… something he’d been dreaming about since the moment they’d met. Nervously, he approached her, leaving only a few inches between their bodies. He reached out to take her face in his hands.
Susie: Susie glanced away from Mark’s admiring view, a blush making its way across her cheeks. He was so shy, she’d always loved that quality in him. And now, he was looking at her like she was the axis around which he spun, and something deep within her told her that was exactly what she wanted from him. Much too slowly, he moved forward, until finally she could feel the heat of him, so close to her, and she welcomed his touch.
Mark: After years of fantasizing about this very moment, Mark drew Susie into his arms and touched his lips to hers. The moment couldn’t have been more perfect.
Do you see how Mark made his intentions clear, but left Susie time to accept or decline the physical contact? Then, once he had expressed permission, he could make his move. This not only allows players a say in what happens to their characters, it makes for better role-playing. Instead of Mark kissing Suzie, we experience the tension and desire between them.
Alternatively, the seen could have gone like this:
Mark: Mark looked at Susie. She was so beautiful… the way the evening light danced across her chocolate locks, and the eerie glow of her sun-kissed skin. She was only a few feet away from him; all he needed to do was to close the distance between them, and he could finally feel the gentle pressure of her lips on his… something he’d been dreaming about since the moment they’d met. Nervously, he approached her, leaving only a few inches between their bodies. He reached out to take her face in his hands.
Susie: Susie watched the internal struggle on Mark’s face. She wondered what was going on in his head… he was always do difficult to read. That was what she liked about Brad. He was so open… the kind of guy who put everything out there for the whole world to see. She missed him terribly. She watched, confused, as Mark moved closer to her. Too close. He reached out, as if to pull her closer, and she scrambled back.
“What’re you doing, Mark?”
Mark’s player offers Susie the chance to let Mark kiss her, but also gives her enough time to decline if that’s not what in Susie’s cards. The is absolutely necessary, and it’s simple polite gameplay.
5. Please keep sexual contact to a minimum. A kiss here and there and mild touching is one thing, but please try not to be explicit. If it is, for some reason, absolutely necessary, please PM a mod IN ADVANCE, and we’ll sort things out.
